Tableau – Q2 2024
Version Updates
Usually Tableau releases 3 updates per year. In this blog post we’ll go through some of the features added in the second release of 2024 (2024.2). As mentioned in the previous blog post, with the 2024.2 release Einstein copilot and multi fact dimensions are now available.
1. Einstein Copilot for Tableau: Web Authoring
Since August, the Einstein Copilot for Tableau is available to function as AI assistant. It can help create and edit visualizations and formulate calculations. The same functionalities are also available in data prep and catalog to help with creating calculations and automating your documentation (eg: generate descriptions for data source, workbooks, tables,…)
2. Tableau Pulse improvements
- Embedded components
Outside of the use of API, Tableau Pulse KPI can now also be embedded in your workbooks.
- Metrics in Catalog
Data lineage is now available for Tableau Pulse metrics to get a view of what underlying databases and changes could influence your metrics.
3. Viz Extensions
Viz extensions are now available to use custom viz types in your worksheets.
Some examples of custom viz types you can now use:
4. Multi-Fact Relationships
It is now possible to link tables with each other that are not necessarily related to each other. For example, you will be able to use ice cream sales data and weather data together. These 2 data sets are not necessarily related to each other but they do share dimensions, which would make it possible to link them. In this example this would be location and/or time dimensions which both data sets have.
5. Local and Auto Save in Tableau Public
The free platform from Tableau now has the option to locally save workbooks to their local desktop. While connected to the internet it is now possible to create and save visualizations locally while also benefiting from the new auto-save feature.
