Qlik Sense – Q4 2024
Version Updates
Qlik Sense usually releases 1 big update each semester, so in this blog post we’ll only discuss the one update that was released in November 2024. Do note: the Qlik Cloud version is continuously being updated so some of the S2 updates might have already been available during 2024. (There was a Q1 release in 2024 but this was the last quarterly update before moving the bi-yearly updates)
1. Navigation Improvements
The side panel now also stores sheets and bookmarks. Which means that everything is now accessible from the side panel. In addition to the move of the sheets, it is now also possible to group sheets. Which makes organizing and navigation a lot easier.
As an alternative of using the side panel. You can now also add a sheet navigation menu to your app. It will display all (public) sheets and also groups. For the grouped sheets a user would have to press the group name to expand the menu and display all sheets that are contained within the group. The menu itself is also quite customizable and will add a new way of navigating in Qlik as opposed to currently having to create buttons for each sheet to navigate through your app sheets.
2. Table improvements
Continuing from the February and May update there have been further improvements to the (new) table charts (straight and pivot table).
For straight tables the following improvements have been made:
- Measure modifiers (Accumulation, moving average, difference and relative)
- Images within cells
- Usage of <b>, <i>, <u>, <s> for dimension and measure styling
- Font styling
- Grid styling
- Null value styling
Once the new straight table has the same features as the current default one, this new table will become default.
For pivot tables the following improvements have been made:
- Images within cells
- Copy cell value option
- Export to image/pdf
- Snapshot, monitor and subscribe
3. Selection bar enhancements
- Use master dimension label expressions
- Style settings similar to the filter pane
- Global style through theme for filter panes and the selection bar
4. Combo chart enhancements
- Option to enable/disable the gridline spacing
- Marker labels
- Segment labels
- Chart animation
5. Tab container enhancements
A newly (renamed) container visual is available. The old container visual will be deprecated in the future. This new visual has the same features as the old one, with the following enhancements:
- More styling options
- Label font style
- Label icon style
- Label width control
- Tab color (or by expression)
- Longer labels are now fully visible
- The menu has been restyled
- Vertical tabs
6. Bundled chart style improvements
Most of the bundled chart now have extra styling options like title, background, border and shadow. (Some of the bundled charts already had these option like for example Line and Text)
7. Cyclic dimension improvements
- Actions for buttons can now be used to set a specific field in the group
- Expressions can be used to set the field labels
