Qlik Sense – Q2 2024

Version Updates

Qlik Sense usually releases 1 big update each semester, so in this blog post we’ll only discuss the one update that was released in May 2024. Do note: the Qlik Cloud version is continuously being updated so some of the S2 updates might have already been available during 2024. (There was a Q1 release in 2024 but this was the last quarterly update before moving the bi-yearly updates)

1. Background color opacity

When using the color selector it is now possible to use a slider to determine the transparency of the color. This is useful if you want to use background images that need to stay visible or to give bar charts a cleaner look.

2. Table improvements

Continuing from the February update there have been further improvements to the table charts (straight and pivot table). For straight tables this means being able to have smaller columns and the addition of URL links. Pivot tables have the following improvements added:

  • Dimension limits
  • Measure formatting
  • Text alignment for dimension and measures values and titles
  • Null value styling measures
  • URL links

3. Button enhancements

Buttons now have one new way to let users navigate their dashboards. The new option “Go to Sheet: Specify Chart” gives them the option to navigate directly to a specific chart. This is extremely useful since it gives the option to move to a specific part of a sheet (if its a sheet that’s bigger then your screen) or if you want to jump to a specific graph within a container that has multiple tabs. It could also be used to mimic a ‘back to top/bottom of the page’.

4. Navigation arrows visible when hiding the sheet title

In the past navigation icons were hidden when hiding the sheet title. With the update, they are now visible again in the selection bar.

5. Cyclic dimensions

If you wanted to have one chart with many use cases you normally work with hiding/showing dimensions within the graph through the use of variables. Now, it is possible to use GroupDimensionIndex and GroupDimensionLabel to toggle or swap between dimensions. These can be applied through the entire app making it a lot easier to create this setup. As an alternative of buttons or variable drop downs, these dimensions can now also be changed from the graph directly, similarly like alternative dimensions.

6. Drag and drop charts to layout container

These front end updates can also be found with examples on the Qlik Sense demos website:
