Power BI – June 2025
Version Updates
It seems, this year. Power BI is alternating their bigger and smaller updates. Last month we got a big update, this month we’ll have a smaller one. For this month the main focus was reporting with some general and modeling updates.
General
1. Sensitivity labels for Power BI
Sensitivity labels can now be set to classify any of your Power BI Files.. This way you can more easily and securely work together without your organization. Once the labels have been set, there are a few restrictions. You can for example only republish a dashboard back to its original workspace and cannot change the label from Power BI Desktop.
Reporting
1. Visual Calculations updates (PREVIEW)
As each month progresses visual calculations keep getting updated, this month was no exception.:
- Parameter Pickers
Less typing when creating visual calculations. When you use a function or load a template Parameter Pickers will appear to let you choose what colums, fields , etc to use.
- Adaptation to changes in the visual
Visual calculations will now continue to work even after changing the visual type.
Eg: if you previously created a calculation that was using COLUMNS and changed the visual type to something without COLUMNS, it would produce an ERROR. From now on it will ignore COLUMNS in your visual calculation if there are no COLUMNS available.
- Visual Calculation have been added to Explore
2. Sparklines GA
Sparklines have been in PREVIEW since Dec 2021. They are now Generally Available. Aside from making them GA, they now also work with calculation groups. Aside from applying calculation groups to the total of the sparkline it will also be possible to apply the calculation groups to each individual value of all sparklines.
3. Field Parameters and Numeric Range improvements (PREVIEW)
When working with a remotely connected semantic model you can now create Field Parameters, this was previously not possible. In addition a new button has been added to access the Numeric Range and Field Parameter features.
4. Paginated reports can be added to org apps (PREVIEW)
Modelling
1. Power Query editing is now available in the web for import models (PREVIEW)
