Power BI – July 2025
Version Updates
AI
1. Standalone Copilot improvements
The Standalone Copilot has been improved to now first look at the report and then look at the data model when trying to answer data questions. This should lead to better answers since the reports will contain more curated data shaped by the report author.
Additionally, Workspace settings (Delegated Settings) can now be changed to only show AI-prepped items in the standalone copilot. This should make sure that the AI does not get bad info from ill maintained or incomplete reports.
Verified answers will now also be used by Copilot. If a user has a question that’s very similar to a verified answer (that was setup by developers) they will propose those as an answer.
2. AI Data Schema Updates (Get your Data AI ready)
As part of Get You Data AI Ready, some improvements have been made to one of it’s components (AI Data Schema). A search box has been added so you can easily select/deselect fields that should or should not be used by Copilot. And within this list of fields, an icon has been added that indicates if the field is hidden in the report or not.
3. Narrative Visuals are available for subscription snapshots and can be exported to PDF/PPT.
4. Copilot will now also provide a text response in addition to providing visuals when answering data questions. The text will give an overview and highlight key elements of the visual.
Reporting
1. Visual Calculations updates (PREVIEW)
As each month progresses visual calculations keep getting updated, this month was no exception.:
- Sorting visual calculations
(Most) Visual calculation exclusive functions now have an ORDERBY parameter:
-
- INDEX
- OFFSET
- WINDOW
- RUNNINGSUM
- MOVINGAVERAGE
- PREVIOUS
- …
2. Field Parameters GA
Field Parameters have been in PREVIEW since May 2022. They are now Generally Available. Aside from making them GA, an extra change was added. While using an expanded matrix, when you change the dimension or measure through field parameters the state of the matrix would reset (collapse). With this change the matrix will (try to) stay in the same state as it was before changing the dimension or measure. So if one dimension was expanded and you change the sub dimension through a field parameter. That expanded dimension would stay expanded within the matrix. Eg: Accessories was expanded by Class and changed to Color would still show Accessories as expanded.

3. Organizational themes (PREVIEW)
Within the Admin Portal, Power BI tenant admins can now manage and add JCON themes.
4. Pie and Donut Chart enhancements
The Format -> Visual Pane now includes ‘Slices’. This allows developers to set individual settings for specific series and settings that would apply to all series. In addition to this, you can now also modify inner border width and hide inner borders.
Modelling
1. DAX Query and Modeling View Switch button on the web.
In the past when you wanted to switch from the DAX Query view to the Web Modelling View you had to leave DAX Query view first before going into the Model view. Now you can just switch views through a button on the bottom tab. As you would switch between sheets in Excel.
