Power BI – April 2025

Version Updates

We’re back to a more lighter update for the month of April. To be honest, there’s nothing really existing in the update this time. But we’ll still go through some of them.

AI

1. Ad-Hoc calculations

Continuing from last month’s update. Where they made ad-hoc calculations possible in edit mode, it is now also available in read mode.

Reporting

1. New file picker enable by default

In January a new file picker was made available in preview. The main goal was to more closely align with the Office experience. This file picker has now been  enable by default. Although you can still switch back to the old experience if you wanted to.

2. Auto Create for mobile layout view

After being in preview for over a year, it is now GA (Generally Available). Based on your existing layout, if the mobile canvas is empty, it will try to mimic it. After generating the layout, you are still able to make further edits, but this feature will definitely save you time when creating mobile versions of your report.

Modelling

1. Improvements to live edit in Direct Lake mode (PREVIEW)

Changes made to a Direct Lake semantic model layout will (soon?) be reflected in both Service and Desktop. So when you’re making changes in Desktop, this will be persisted on Service and visa versa.

2. TMDL Preview (PREVIEW)

When making changes to your semantic model through TMDL, you can now press a button called ‘Preview’, to check what changes you did to the code before applying them to the model. This is similar to a compare on github or notepad++, where you can see in red lines that were removed or changed and in green the extra code or changed code.
